The beaches here are really great...massive boulders abound.

Its a little too developed for my taste, but they did it

pretty well and its probably the prettiest beaches

Ive seen with houses nearby...if you could call those "houses" haha.

Thank goodness for Woolworths...

They are one of the few places offering clean food.

I often go there everyday just for fun.

I'll usually eat one bag of this per day...

which isnt actually all that much, but greens are great.

Anyone recognize these?

AKA Incan Berries?

Touted as a major superfood in the states and Europe,

they grow everywhere here and are basically just a sweet

version of the tomatillo. I love them...I eat these with my yogurt.

R17.99 is about $2.50 - works for me!

And yes...the good grass fed dairy. This chunk of goodness

cost me about $3...dairy is tricky...you gotta go for quality or

otherwise you should really just skip it. Too many questions marks.

I even harvested my own seaweeds and mussels on the beach the other

day and incorporated them into my scrambled eggs.

What would that go for at a restaurant?

Being involved in the harvesting and then preparation

and finally the enjoyment of eating it...it really all makes

it come full circle. I wonder if other people would even dream

of eating the seaweeds that cover these (very clean) beaches.

There is kelp EVERYWHERE.

When I see it for sale in the shops back home after this

I'll remember how people pile it up here and have it taken away lol...

Values...so different. Im telling you though...the people here could

really use those sea veggies...its a grain-potato based diet for sure,

and besides the young people, you don't see too many fit people.

I try to go to the beach at least 3 times a week..often walking home

past guava trees and busy restaurants.

I see everyone eating in the restaurants and it makes me kind of bummed out.

I don't like eating out alone...honestly Id rather just make it myself.

But when you see people eating out and having fun it definitely

does look appealing...Ive made friends here but its different.

Maybe im embellishing it all in my head.

Perhaps a wild-food meal at home while watching discovery channel is

in fact a richer experience...maybe they both have their upsides.

I recently found a garden that Grow Paradise will be able

to help as well...they are a group of people living on the land

in the suburbs in abandoned buildings...they are technically squatters

but they have been there for so many years. They want to garden but

the willpower has been lacking. There are olive trees and fig trees there,

so Im thinking about putting in passionfruits, more figs, and whatever else

is more native or at least drought tolerant. Thats the beauty of the trees,

they grow so much easier than tender veggies.

People think they have black thumbs when it comes to gardening,

but the fact is that they are growing very temperamental plants!!

Cape Town...Part 01

Cape Town is really a fun city...Im enjoying every single day here.

The Sunsets are amazing...and the beaches are absolutely

loaded with life...so much kelp and seashells.

The seashells actually replace the sand. It goes to show what

nature can really do if humans let her.

Just a little exercise update.

I've been staying at home each night after sunset

to make dinner and then work out.

I watch National Geographic, The Discovery Channel,

BBC, and The Home Channel

(Some South African Version of HGTV)

and work do push ups and sit ups.

I havent been going out to eat much.

I mostly cook at home.

What have I been eating?

Biodynamic Yogurt, Sardines,

Sunwarrior Vanilla Powder, Coconut Oil,

Avocadoes, Cape Gooseberries, Kerrygold butter,

and nori sheets I brought from home.

There are lots of good places to get groceries though.

Its a very low sugar diet - and it WORKS.

Ive had very little fruit, and honestly I just dont want much

of it besides the occasional mango or papaya.

For Groceries, my favorite is "The Wellness Warehouse".

If you are ever in Cape Town...GO THERE.

This is Camps Bay...its LOVELY.

The 12 Apostles are the names for the peaks

behind the beach...I can only imagine all the good springs up there.

White Hibiscus! So pretty. Perfection really.

This is on the way to Camps Bay...Lots of people out at the beach

on a Sunday but what a view! I walked at least 5 miles and every

second had good scenery.

This is the yogurt Ive been living off of!

I mix it with Cape Gooseberries (Inca Berries)

and its just great.

And its biodynamic! Jersey Milk too...so better.

And since its fermented, no lactose!

Perfect food...really. After years of vegan, I wish I would have

been open to this much earlier.

And check out this find!!! My friend Sephira gave this to me!

AMAZING! Probably the coolest wild food product Ive seen.

Im looking for more and will definitely bring some back for friends!!!

it feels safe, its pretty, and the people are nice.

There are still remnants of racism here in a way...mostly just class based now.

Too much poverty leads to people putting up electric fences all over their property.

If the leaders and citizens only realized that we must ALL be abundant.

If only one group is, that is just as bad for them as the group facing lack.

We must all together Grow Paradise here...then there will be no need for locked

doors and closed hearts...2012 is the year to make this happen.

Punta Cana December 2012

I would have thought that by now finding coconuts and other wild edibles

would have become mundane...I was so wrong.

It still makes me so happy.

Being grounded on the wet sand and connected

to the energy of the planet is so healing.

Get barefoot and work out your toes.

Mine are finally spreading thanks to the vibrams and more barefoot living.

I wouldnt really go back to Punta Cana...it was beautiful and the

beaches were really nice, but there are so many other places to see in the world.

The magic just wasnt there like I thought...it could have been because

of where we stayed or the overall atmosphere, but it was still a

wonderful place to disconnect and enjoy the fresh wind of the ocean

and way more fruit than Ive eaten in many many months.

I brought back some passion fruit seeds so Ill be offering them

When we got home, I was SO excited to drink springwater again.

I can't begin to explain how nasty bottled Reverse Osmosis water is after you've

had nothing but springwater for months and months.

this is a REALLY good deal and the place is wonderful.

I sat in the sauna for 30 minutes with my ice cold bottle

of spring water from Cold Spring Harbor and then had my massage.

I love it when places have Saunas...its such a treat and I always

try to take advantage...the heat relaxes my body before

the massage too so it really adds to the whole experience.

I met Dr Joe (founder of the SFW) thru Organic Avenue

A Walk in the Woods

I've been really busy with consultations lately,

and although most are via phone or skype,

more and more are becoming in-person consults and

once in a great while these moments take you to special places.

It was a foraging/green lifestyle kind of consult.

However, being December, I was a little anxious about what we would find.

Sure enough though - the stars aligned and we found so much abundance!

Check these oyster mushrooms. Perfection.

All the rain and wind created so much mushroom food...they are thriving.

There were loads of stinging nettles too.

I was picking them through my glove and I still got nipped.

The tip of my right index finger was tingling for at least 12 hours.

Turkey Tail....again, perfection.

With the evening light, they were glowing.

Look up the power of Turkey Tail...especially for destroying breast cancer.

Here, a primo flush of oysters.

The understory of food forests and any orchard/garden should be

loaded with spots like this...It was a joy to see.

We saw someone riding a horse earlier in the walk,

but then we saw this horse and buggy coming closer quickly.

I took a photo just because it was such a rare site to see these days,

especially 45 minutes from NYC. (Not counting Central Park of course).

A group of four, and who was at the helm?

David Rockefeller. Um...DAVID ROCKEFELLER?

He waved at us as if he was our cheery old grandfather.

I couldnt believe my eyes.

It was so abrupt, so unexpected, and so out of place.

Turns out that he lives in the area and obviously enjoys

taking the horses through the woods in his free time...

Now, from what Ive heard about Mr Rockefeller...

well...organizations like the Trilateral Commission,

The Bilderberg Group, The Council on Foreign Relations,

and the now infamous Federal Reserve Bank of NY come to mind.

Many people think this guy is pure evil,

and here he was, just a fragile small-statured man,

waving at us as he was riding his horse and buggy through the woods.

One minute ago I was picking oyster mushrooms in the forest,

now Im looking "Mr Illuminati" in a horse and carriage? What the..?

This is how some people greet him -

Mr Rockefeller is accused of some nasty stuff,

but would it have made sense for me to yell something mean?

Honestly, I was in pure shock when it occurred,

but had I wanted to actually yell something out,

it probably would have been "Grow Paradise David!"

"FOOD FORESTS! ECO-VILLAGES!"

I will always think the "Food Forest" term will sink into

anyone's heart once they hear it and they grasp its potential to help us.

But again, I was half shocked and half scared.

I mean...if you watch some of the related youtube vids

as I have in the past, you wouldnt take a moment like that too lightly.

Yet, it amazed me how casual the four of them were.

It was so surreal to say the least.

We wondered through the back paths of Blue Hill at Stone Barns.

This was once a part of the Rockefeller property,

and now it is a beautiful place to eat very expensive local + organic food.

This is how we all used to eat for eons. Local, lighty processed, organic food.

We have to bring this model back to the everyone though...

Its a beautiful place of course and roaming the property is amazing,

but the food really shows the value in growing our own and

making our own food with love...its beyond priceless!

And its just so wonderful how affordable it all is when you

take on the responsibility and do it yourself. Its a win-win for SURE.

A bit dark, but you can see that even in December they have lush growth

and covercrops going in the garden...nothing sadder than an

empty garden in the fall....people usually stop gardening after september

for no reason! Kale, Collards, Arugula, Beets, Spinach...tons of greens...

they all thrive in the fall weather and with care they never have to stop.

They had bees too...its a fun place to visit,

and if you dont want to visit the restaurant,

there are gift shops and places to get small treats I think.

They color the boxes to help the bees see better...

never thought of that but it sounds good to me!

Aesthetically though...I love a nice unpainted wood for my hives.

Here were some of their cows.

This was kind of sad, because although many of the cows

were truly on pasture, some, like these, were just in muddy

enclosures eating dried hay in the feed troughs.

Who knows when these cows will be consumed (eeks!)

but they certainly werent eating fresh green grass right there.

I would hope that those cows better be eating

the freshest, ocean mineral enriched, biodynamically grown grass possible.

Again...it shows the value of doing things ourselves.

Maybe they bring these cows on pasture in the spring before

butchering, but for me this wasn't really exciting.

Even the pigs they had...just roaming around in mud.

No grass or tubers or wild greens.

Just think of the amazing quality produced

when you raise animals and plants yourself...its hard to match.

So what was at first a consultation about foraging and food forests,

turned into quite an afternoon...

Its all about being in the flow and letting the lessons come your way.

The teachers are everywhere...

the mushrooms on the logs, the pigs in the mud,

the old billionaires driving their horses, and especially the sunset.

There is magic in every moment...

open yourself to it and see how it starts to flood in!

The Hybrid to Feed us All

This system heals the Earth.

It stops erosion, safely holds rainwater, and keeps the ground cool.

It requires no energy on humanity's part to keep it running.

If the system is large enough, it actually produces rain.

However, many people believe that this cannot feed the hungry masses.

This system destroys the earth.

It hurts the soil, creates erosion and desertification,

and requires endless amounts of energy to maintain.

However, this system produces large amounts of food.

Whether that food is appropriate to eat or not isnt a concern

for most people...mainstreamers just think about numbers.

When I see these fields, I see desert. I see former forests.

This system, which is a hybrid of the two (but far more benign than #2)

is the answer and will feed the planet while healing it at the same time.

foundation for the next few lines. I highly suggest reading it.

There is always the argument:

We need forests, but we also need food. Fields give us more food.

(Do they? If yes, at what cost?)

What is sad is that we have come so far from what makes sense.

What is joyous is that we have the answer now.

The Food Forest. A consciously designed forest

that is loaded with highly productive varieties.

The Food Forest secures water,

prevents erosion, provides shade and protection to the soil,

and it feeds us quite nicely without much energy needed.

The biggest goal we are facing is the shift from monoculture fields

to polyculture forest garden systems. Its already happening all over

the world, and the sooner we can turn the second picture into the third,

the better off EVERYTHING will be.

A forest that FEEDS us. That is what we need.

Very similar to the idea of the Garden of Eden.

Now why haven't our leaders (government, religious, cultural)

ever proposed or implemented this idea?

Is there something that they are keeping from us?

I know its all about efficiency and money.

But luckily when the cheap fuel starts running out (and it is obviously)

we will be forced to resort to systems not reliant on tractors,

combines, spraying machines, and transport to ship it all far away.

The food forest is the obvious answer for our future.

Just keep spreading the term "Food Forest".

That word is imprinted with white magic and when people hear it,

something deeper and instinctual arises within their hearts.

Keep talking about it. But not overbearingly.

Casually mention it at work.

Tell people that you're thinking about planting a food forest

in your backyard. Tell them that you heard about it on TV.

It will resonate. There is something about those two words.

It will um..."plant a seed" in their mind and get things moving.

We can have food and forests covering out blessed planet.

There is no need for any lack, and poverty, any struggle.

Food Forests are the answer to every challenge we face.

The Vanilla Pumpkin Smoothie (or pudding)

Note - this version could be raw or cooked.

I honestly believe that especially with root veg and squash,

using eat to extract more nutrients is a good thing,

and raw really isnt optimal for this kind of dish.

However, Ive done it, and with a vitamix it turned out well.

The amounts can vary depending how thick you prefer your smoothies.

1-2 cups of squash, pumpkin, or sweet potato. (Preferably cooked)

2 scoops of sunwarrior vanilla warrior blend.

1 tbls of cinnamon

1 tsp of nutmeg

2 cups of water

1-2 vanilla beans if you have them.

I added some sweetleaf vanilla stevia drops,

but the sunwarrior powder already had stevia

and coupled with the sugars from the baked squash or sweet potato,

it wasnt really needed to be honest.

I blend it all, and enjoy.

A Walk on the Beach

I was in Fort Lauderdale recently.

I was filming episodes of Sunwarrior TV,

and despite the cloudy-windy weather, I had a really good time.

The Sunwarrior folks have what it takes to get people (especially guys)

to start thinking a little more about the food that they eat.

They have a great team which Im proud to be a part of.

So while I was there, I ran on the beach quite a bit.

I did it barefoot so i could get the electrical connection to the Earth

and also to get the good sand between my toes to help spread them out more.

I would listen to audiobooks or some peaceful music and just

enjoy the super fresh ocean air. Despite being so close to the Atlantic

here in NYC, I just dont feel like we get that same kind of air.

Maybe its all the um...cars? Likely. Anyways...

The beach is nice, but there is a decent amount of litter.

I just couldnt deal with the sight of it, so I started picking it up.

For hours I would powerwalk up and down the beach and just fill

up grocery bags with so much litter. How could people not care about this?

So as I was doing this, I made a discovery.

This little guy was washed up on the beach.

Still alive, but gasping. It wasnt pretty.

Since he was a blowfish, picking him up with my bare

hands didnt seem to be the wisest of choices so I hunted

around a bit and found some useful litter - a plastic shovel.

I scooped him up, took a pic, (or 10) and put him back in the water.

So beautiful right? I could feel his soul while looking in those eyes!

So yes...I flung him back into the water, but after another 10 min

of picking up trash, I found him again.

This was a bad sign. He was done. I gave him a second chance

thinking that maybe he was still healthy but got washed up

accidentally by the waves, but in reality...his time was up.

He just sat there and gasped. I couldnt just walk away from his suffering

or pick him up again to throw him in the garbage to slowly die.

So I did what every mature person would do -

quite sadly and savagely I found a rock and put him out of his suffering.

What would you do in this situation? Could you do the same?

I just couldnt walk away so as to avoid the pain of killing him.

I had to do what needed to be done, and that was to finish his pain

and send him onto the next chapter of his existence.

Hopefully he is a baby shark right now.

Not a pretty sight, but it had to be done.

Im sorry little fish.

I then carried him away and placed him in the bushes so

maybe some birds could eat him...it would be a shame to

put him in the trash and rob the ecosystem of his body.

Good to keep it all in the cycle.

I felt sad, but it had to be done.

I then went back to picking up more trash.

Look what I found...big shards of glass! I was just running on this beach

and there were little kids nearby playing...how could this be?

I would think that the residents of the area or even the hotels

across the street would pay people to do sweeps and clean it up.

There was so much crap...it wasnt like coney island of course,

but it was an eyesore and it saddened me that people could

1. Put up with it and not be bothered enough to just pick it up themselves

and 2. Put trash there to begin with. What a spoiled treasure.

Now I was thinking...how much money it would take to pay people

to just do what I did. Or to organize a volunteer group to get people

together to go "Clean up the Beach!" It would be such an ordeal.

T-shirts would have to be made, flyers, non-profits would have to be funded etc.

Such a hassle when simple direct action by a few people would fix it all.

Its so simple. Thats the beauty of it. It doesn't take much of anything.

One person, all by himself picks up loads and loads of trash

on a stretch of beach in Florida. In a few hours I did what would have

taken weeks to organize. Board members would've needed to vote on

proposals or permits would have to be made hahaha...such a joke.

If you get anything from this, it is this -

Direct action by just a few people accomplishes more

than tons of money and people combined if

their hearts are in the right place.

If you are powered by source, you can clean beaches, plant forests,

feed the hungry...it goes on and on really.

So...as I was doing this, I had a visitor.

There were regular-looking pigeons all over the beach.

Looking beat up and foraging for food.

Yet, this single white little angel came over to me and said hello.

It was the nicest thank you I couldve asked for.

Maybe it just thought that I had food lol...

but none of the other pigeons came near me like this one did.

And for the final revelation...I saw a man walking along the beach

with a metal detector. Looking for buried treasure I suppose.

The irony was that the REAL treasure was the pristine beach

he was walking on. Not some stupid coins or jewelry.

Here I was walking along him picking up trash,

while he was strolling along looking for other leftovers.

The real treasure is unspoiled nature. This fellow was walking

on a goldmine, while looking for coins buried within it.

Could he spend his time enriching the real treasure instead

of searching for quarters and pennies to pay his cable bill?

Remember this...the real treasure is nature.

Not man-made ANYTHING. Its all fleeting and its all a distraction.

Direct action will save us.

Petitions may delay negativity,

but for true positive co-creation, direct action always gets the goods.

No committees, no permits, no headaches.

Get out there and make the world a better place!

One little stretch of beach at a time...it all adds up!

Is the college dream a joke?

I want you to watch this first.

I went to a state college, so my yearly costs

were about $3000 a year.

I didnt know what I wanted to be yet,

so i just went through the process and got the degree

in business marketing. Honestly, it was the biggest waste

of time and money. Knowing what (I think) I know now,

I feel that the whole college degree chase is a total scam.

So whats the (REAL) answer for these graduates?

Frankly, I would say get whatever job you can,

and SAVE as much as possible.

Then buy some land.

Then plant a food forest.

The food forest shouldnt cost you more than $2,000.

Then build a small home or buy a yurt or tipi.

Then...live the paradise garden lifestyle.

Growing your own food, having nearly zero expenses,

and eventually making a living selling your produce

either online or in person.

The key is setting up a life like a semi-retired person.

What traps people is the mentality that they need a big house

and all the um..."trappings" that come along with modern life.

In reality, we now know that basically with an small laptop

or even a smartphone and a camera/camcorder we can create

online content and communicate with the outside world just the same

as if we had 20K worth of high tech gadgets and big ol' fashioned desktops.

Simplify, simplify, simplify! - Henry David Thoreau

Simplification is the biggest gift you can give yourself.

Breaking the spell that you need this or that to be content.

Ive been on both sides of the spectrum.

Because of my job, Ive been in some of the most posh hotels on the planet,

and Ive lived in a tipi in the cold Minnesota springtime in whipping winds,

and for some reason, I felt more REAL and authentic living in that tipi

and waking up in my forest garden every morning.

That tipi cost me $2,000 US and hoepfully Ill have it for decades.

No payments, no rent.

I could fit a queen sized bed, a kitchenette, and a futon in there

and it would be totally perfect. Again, simplicity. Why make life so complex?

Its complex enough...why overburden ourselves with all the expenses?

Because I have to fit in somewhat and because very few women

would ever EVER want to actually live in a tipi, Im sure I would have

to upgrade to a cute little cottage or a pre-fab eco home,

but again, the key is keeping it small and simple.

I dont want to be inside anyways.

I want my main LIVING ROOM to be my food forest.

This is the mentality that will free all those poor graduates

that need to hack away at the chains of their debt.

I feel so bad for them because now due to their debt,

they have to find a job that pays relatively well and instead

of using that money to buy their freedom out right,

they are using the money to slowly unlock themselves from the

iron grip of debt slavery. Its super lame and I hope anyone

who is in high school reading this will think LONG AND HARD

about biting that bait and getting hooked in.

You are free spirits on this Earth to create and play...

not to pay off loans and settle for one week vacations every year.

Please do not settle for so little.

Become organic gardeners and sell your extras.

Have workshops and classes on your property if you need to fund

some getaways, and look to take a holiday in places

that can be enjoyed for months in the winter, not just a week or two.

Life is short. Kind of. Its a long time to suffer from mediocrity though.

You have been given the gift of life in a human body,

and if you dont take advantage of it, perhaps you need to start from scratch

and become a vegetable again. If you see yourself as an angel here

to expand and explore, the idea of sitting around in an office and

watching the hours slowly tick away

(so you can pay off your debt and rent an temporary apartment)

TRULY doesnt even seem reasonable, yet even POSSIBLE.

Id rather live in a tipi. Honestly.

Deprogram and clean your hard drive.

Mast Brothers

Last year when I was with Blackbird Naturals,

the cooking channel came over and did a feature on us

for their chocolate episode.

One of the other companies featured was Mast Brothers.

When I saw the episode I got good energy from the guys,

but hadn't yet tried their stuff.

Lately, Ive tried it. And it has totally blown me away.

The complexities make any other organic chocolate Ive had

seem so bland. I was a big fan of the Trader Joe's Organic Dark and

now that stuff seems like a sad joke.

True, Mast Brothers isn't exactly inexpensive, but when you watch this video,

I think you'll have a good appreciation for what they are up to.

If you see them in a store, I would recommend trying it.

Even at $8, think of it as a nice treat for you and a loved one.

Its so rich that half will usually satisfy you. Both. Seriously.

Its making me rethink the whole raw cacao thing too.

Is the raw bean really that much more magical?

Why can't I get flavor like this from a raw bar?

All due respect to the raw chocolatiers out there,

but there is really something to say about roasting those beans.

I wonder if they ever did a stone grind with raw beans instead?

Has anyone that bought a Raw Food World stone nut grinder

ever thrown cacao beans in theirs?

Try it for yourself and see if you can taste the difference.

My favorite is the almonds and sea salt version.

We just tried Black Truffles and its ok, but not like the almond one.

Anyways...food for thoughts...raw or roasted?

I can't help but think something more insidious is going on.

and even with my life, I realized that a few actions will very

likely fix all of the problems we are facing both as individuals

and as a collective whole on this planet.

I realized that the answer is to create paradise gardens for our families.

To eat from them, to raise our children in them,

to LIVE and LOVE in them.

Early on I thought that the answer was for everyone to go vegan.

This was a naive and uneducated viewpoint, and I feel that the bigger

issue is far more than diet, its about the lives we choose to create.

I am starting an organization called "Grow Paradise".

The site will be up soon, and I just launched a newsletter.

This is all about positive solutions that are fun and even easy.

Solutions that will get us on the fast track to living vibrant and

completely bliss-filled lives on this planet.

I truly believe that this is our goal as free-willed humans.

We have to merge Heaven and Earth.

Imagine what your paradise lifestyle would be like.

Really think about it for awhile.

Do you see...

Little kids running around?

Paradise gardens dripping with fruits?

Birds singing and bees buzzing?

Being with your loved ones and creating art and life every day?

That is what I envision at least.

I see a world where we can choose to do whatever we want.

Where all our needs and wants are provided for.

Growing our own slices of heaven and supporting companies

that produce healthy and conscious products is how we are going

to make this happen. The tide is turning. People are seeing the truth.

and just lots of fun ideas about making this planet HEAVEN again.

I'll also cover ways to make our bodies primed for thriving.

An important lesson here is the power of consciousness.

One conscious man was able to do SO MUCH positivity.

It took tens of thousands of unconscious men to pillage the St Lawrence,

but it only took one conscious man to create a forest.

Think about that...the power of a conscious soul that is active.

It greatly outshadows the unconscious destruction that may surround

some of us...but just know how it lies within you...always.

Whenever a person is ready to assume the task of co-creation,

the Universe sets up support systems to make it manifest.

Every time.

These works have come back into our lives for a reason.

Ive said it before, but it needs repeating:

I FULLY believe that we have come to this planet to bring

Paradise back again...to turn Earth back into the Paradise Garden it was.

People may get esoteric about why we are here...humanity's destiny.

They might say that we are here to fully explore ourselves

on the physical level and hopefully reach enlightenment one day.

Some will say that its a test...a time to prove ourselves worthy.

The beauty of this is that if we choose to turn Earth back into the

paradise garden it once was, all of these things and more will be achieved.

I feel as if its a PREREQUISITE. That we need to act and co-create

before we can philosophize about why we are truly here.

Again...grow the paradise around you...the paradise that Earth WANTS

to be again...the Earth as we found it...it is time to reconnect.

The Apples of my Eye

I planted the trees that these apples came from 3 years ago.

I honestly dont even know their names anymore...

I think one is a Haralred and the other may be a Regent.

My mom mailed these to me about 5 days ago along with some

Whitney crabapples that turned pretty mushy.

I baked those in the oven with sweet potatoes and they

came out perfect...the best way to deal with mushy apples

besides blending them up with greens...

The true beauty about these apples is that

both cosmetically and taste-wise they are flawless.

I dont even buy apples anymore really.

They are usually sprayed and if they are organic,

they are often from New Zealand...go figure.

We are in PRIME apple country and the only ones

we can buy without chemicals are likely from NEW ZEALAND??

And the taste...simply the best ever from these.

I couldnt believe how crisp and sweet...pure gold.

However, I did NOTHING to protect them from worms.

No chemical spray (NO WAY!!!)

Not even a clay spray to block out the worms.

All I did was give them loads of minerals and nutrients in the soil

and did some foliar sprays in the spring with diluted kelp,

apple cider vinegar, and molasses. The nutrients in this mix

have seemed to produce a VERY happy plant that could protect itself.

Not only that, but I also have loads of biodiversity in my garden.

So many different kinds of plants and loads of beneficial insects.

My grandfather has been spraying his apples for decades,

but he is figuratively living in an island around a sea of corn

soybean fields...think of what the "pests" in those areas must

think about when they have to survive...they will stay right on

that farm and continue to reproduce and until beneficial insects

are introduced the cycle can likely never be broken.

(My Grandparent's place...where is the biodiversity?)

These two pics demonstrate why suburbs covered in trees are

far more useful and environmentally friendly than fields.

My spot isnt even in the suburbs but you get what I mean...

especially if those trees all produce FOOD. Thats the key.

He couldnt believe that I didnt have any worms without spraying.

I told him years before that it was possible and this year he

saw it with his own eyes...follow the laws of nature

and she will be sure to take care of you.

We are going apple picking soon and will only support those

that don't spray with nasty chemicals!

If youre into this, call ahead and tell them that if they are spraying

they are losing your business! Money talks in this culture!

Finding a Korean Nut Pine in NYC

This video MAY have captured my excitement,
but seriously I was in plant geek heaven right there.

I have planted so many trees in the past 4 years,
but the Korean Nut Pine is the only evergreen conifer
that I have planted in the food forests.

They are so tiny though...the ones that I have planted.
To see a majestic queen like this in person humbled me.

So beautiful...so serene...so life-giving.
The squirrels are feasting on her bounty,
and after seeing how laborious it is to get each little kernel out,
I realized that I may have planted a squirrel buffet instead of a human one.

So it goes though...It will be worth it and the KNP (korean nut pine)
is well known for its massive pine pollen catkins..
so not only will we get nuts but also heaps of pollen.

Such a treasure...plant some NOW!!!

A Paradise Garden for 9-11

If Only I would have waited 6 more minutes! 11:11:11 on 9:11:11!

I was exhausted after walking around Heaven on Earth all day though!

I found it fitting to spend 9-11 in a forest garden.

That day was so tragic and so unneeded that I felt by

spending time in a little slice of Heaven on Earth would be a fitting

way to spend the day...especially away from the madness of NYC.

I was SO happy to see this sign! People are getting it!

Think about how much positive change just one person can do.

Now...multiply that by 10...or 100...or 10,000...its JOYOUS

to think of what people with love in their hearts can create.

Or 100,000,000????

A part of the garden is an edible schoolyard.

And for the end of the summer season,

Chef Mario Batali has hosted a wonderful section

that is all about showing people how to make wonderful and healthy

food from fruits and veg that we can grow in our backyard.

My hat goes off to you dear sir! WELL DONE!!!

Downtown in NYC, there were sirens, secret service,

and hundreds of thousands of people.

We were here.

Talk about the acid/alkaline balance.

I was so happy here.

It fills my heart so much to see little kids getting into gardening.

THIS is the future...not wars and greed...but gardens. And love.

Less fighting and more planting!

To my complete surprise, we found a Korean Pine Nut tree!!

I honestly would have made the trip up here to see JUST this tree.

AND...we were able to find some unselected kernels...

the squirrels are living very well in this garden.

When you think about the labor needed to shell each kernel,

you gain a much deeper respect for how sacred this food really is.

I have planted at least 6 of these in my food forest in Minnesota.

They are 2 feet tall. To be in the presence of this majestic being

was truly an honor...she is so beautiful and lovely.

I could feel her peaceful energy.

I couldnt think of a better place to be...really.

We can have this everywhere. We just have to want it enough.

Let's make the planet a Paradise Garden. We can grow it now.

We can co-create Heaven on Earth.

Really we can.

The Great Spirit would be so proud of us for doing it

in the face of such a strong and painful dichotomy.

I really do believe that is our purpose.

Once we create it, our children will see the value and never let it slip away.

And remember...HAVE FUN ALWAYS!

Im sending SO MUCH LOVE to the victims AND

the perpetrators of 9-11 and everything that has happened since because of it.

We must send love to all that is here...for it is truly all of us.

The "evil" that lurks in the high places of the world feeds

on the hate and disappointment that we send it...

we must above all send them so much unconditional love,

and second, show them that a paradise planet is in ALL of our best interests.

And then we just start creating it. If they are with us...GREAT!

If not, they won't even be relevant anymore anyways.

It is the only way to have Heaven here again as it once was.

We must send EVERYONE love.

I know it sounds sappy or cheesy or whatever,

but obviously the other strategy isnt exactly working.

SEND them ALL love. All of them.

The Strange but True Facts about 9-11

I always said that if I felt something to be true, I would share it.

If I was laying in my bed as an old man and thought that I could

have shared some more information with people in any way that I could,

but chose not to because of some hopeful future $$$$ from a TV

show or whatever else...and I chose to keep quiet -

I would feel like I had chosen money over truth and wouldnt

be able to live with myself or pass away knowing that I was a fraud.

Luckily, this is the official story though! Enjoy!

The strangest part about all this is that barely NO ONE

that I know here in the USA questions ANY OF THIS.

Is it really that hard to believe?

Anyways...watch the OFFICIAL story above an decide for yourself.

Truth is FAR stranger than fiction.

I would love for this to have no merit...trust me I would.

Id love to live in a country with a gov't that actually serves its citizens...

that would just be so amazing I imagine. Its coming though...

I love all of humanity...no arbitrary borders or lies from the mainstream

media can get me to hate people from another country

or because they dont believe the same things as me.

I TRULY feel that we are all waking up to this,

and these are the last gasps of tyranny. What a time to be alive.

My California Trip...Part 01

Shopping for a food forest...

After two very interesting and introspective months

living and co-creating in my food forest garden in Minnesota,

I was swept up and off to the golden coasts of Southern California.

My food forest passion and knowledge was needed in the hills

of Aliso Viejo, CA...which is about 10 minutes inland from Laguna.

My friend Martin, who I just met in person last week,

is creating a fully interactive house and after seeing us at the

Longevity Now Conference, decided that a Food Forest in the backyard

was ABSOLUTELY called for...he flew me in and we began planning.

He has completed much of the hardscaping, and now we are plugging

in the gaps with appropriate plants...his space has many microclimates

due to shade and water features, so this gave him maximum flexibility.

Since he is using this space to inspire clients, he needed to choose

more established trees instead of waiting for tiny saplings to fill out.

At first this may seem like an extravagance...but truly it is so smart.

Saving some money early on with a small tree...

this is a very shortsighted way to look at all of this.

Get larger trees if you can.

They give you fruit usually immediately,

and they are more inspirational early on

(which is VERY important for getting friends and family on board).

Also, the savings of water and nutrition in the earlier years of the plant's life

must be accounted for when your water supply isn't free and unlimited.

It adds up to keep these plants alive, so if you can have someone else

cover those expenses for a few years, do it.

One place we checked out was the Exotica Rare Fruit Nursery.

As you walk in, it doesn't appear to be as magical as it really is.

This is Steve. He's been running the place for 30 years.

There are MASSIVE canopy fruit trees in this place, many which have

grown thru their plastic bucket decades ago to take hold and

rain fruit upon the understory all year round it seems.

This is Martin under the canopy of a white sapote.

She was BIG! She had some dead branches that needed pruning

but overall they appeared to be very healthy.

The place is a bit messy, but the plant life easily makes up for it.

A Food Forest Canopy...the way it should be

This is some kind of Brazillian Cherry...I was wondering if I took

this photo with some kind of skunk or cat underneath my hand,

but I realized that was Steve. Hi Steve.

He had massive loquats too...this one is actually taken

near Martin's house near the creek. Since there are mature Loquats growing

here in the area already, we can save the space for other plants that

give us more variety and perhaps need more human interaction.

Major productivity! Watermelon Pluots I think...

Ice Cream Bean! Its a nitro-fixing plant too!

That means it feeds nearby plants!

My first time ever seeing these in person.

What a massive tree.

My first time ever picking a white sapote from the tree.

One of my favorite fruits by far!

This is steve modeling a 2003 Chinese Chestnut...thx buddy!

He also has a Black Sapote there for $800...its HUGE.

If you want to splurge, get that tree! It was an honor to see it in person!

We also went to Maddock's Ranch Nursery in Fallbrook...

They have VERY established trees, especially citrus and avocado.

We got 4 trees from them, but at their prices it could become addictive.

Their avocado trees were a STEAL!

We only had room for 4 trees, so we went with the deciduous ones

first and will the get the citrus and avocado later.

The evergreens will be on the lower level and the deciduous trees

(the ones that lose their leaves in the autumn)

will be up on the slope so the leaf litter can feed the soil.

Cut to the chase and get big trees.

Especially if you arent working with a massive piece of property...

fill it in with larger trees and enjoy your food forest sooner.

This makes much more ECONOMIC SENSE too.

How much sooner will Martin be enjoying his figs, apples, peaches, and almonds?

Well...YEARS before, compared to buying even a $50 tree.

These trees he purchased were over 5-6 years old.

That means more figs this year...next year...4 years from now...get it?

The extra $150 will be made up in fruit and water savings easily.

Planting Ms. Peach...she is a Mid-Pride...super sweet and juicy.

Look at that root-ball! She's established and will fruit heavily.

I really became good friends with Martin.

It might have seemed funny to just assume that all would work

out and that we would have a great time, but when youre in the

flow and simply expect no less...thats what really occurs.

Anyone wanting to plant a food forest HAS to be cool anyways!

It would be impossible otherwise!

Martin is a freediver (no air-tank, just snorkel and fins but mainly going DEEP)

so he took me out into a kelp forest off the coast of Laguna

...more on that in the next post...

I have (had?) a fear of deep ocean water so this was really good for me.

This was our playground....I was nervous at first but came to truly

appreciate what a gem this spot is...I truly felt sorry for those on the beach

missing out on all the real action haha...more to come!

Venice Community Gardens Urban Permaculture Talk

Last sunday I was lucky enough to be invited to speak

at the Venice Community Garden. I spoke about why food forests

are the key to bringing health back to the cities and its inhabitants.

This photo makes me so happy!

This community garden isnt even a year old yet.

Trying to summon the garden spirits to bless all of us lol :)

I think I was actually talking about kiwi vines climbing up trees hahaha

We were soaking up the vitamin D that day...no weird white lines in the sky either!

Bobby Is-Real gave a great talk on ways for us to co-create and share

our resources to help the cities become paradise again.

Im really excited to be teaming up with both him and Norma.

Speaking of Norma...she is the organizer of the Venice Community Garden.

She brought this community garden to 55 families who are now

growing their own food! How cool is that???

And this garden isnt even a year old!

Just think of the power that one person can hold!!!!

I covered the basics of permaculture,

my experiences in Northern and Southern growing zones,

and working with the birds and the bees!

So much to share...I couldve kept going on and on but

Brother Sun was telling us to wrap it up!

I am collaborating with both Norma and Bobby to help

bring this idea of urban food forests to the LA area.

Together we are creating a wonderful synergy and

the time is absolutely perfect for the changes to occur.

And they already are! We are planting a food forest tmrw in Mar Vista

and will continue obviously spreading ideas and inspiration.

Even if one person showed up...that is one person that will hopefully

get turned onto an idea so powerful that it can affect the lives of

people living hundreds of years from now.

One guy in the crowd came up to me after the talk and told me

that of all the talks he has heard about the topic mine was by far

the most informative and entertaining! Ha! That felt great.

I wore the tie to prove a point.

Some of us in the green-living community can be judgmental towards

the "9 to 5" crowd...thinking that we might know more or are more "advanced".

That kind of thinking feeds NOTHING positive.

Our brothers and sisters who work all day in the office

are the ones that can have the biggest affect on this movement.

Imagine if a business executive gets turned onto replanting paradise?

Think of the resources she could put towards that idea.

Would she create more change than an angry Karl Marx fan living in

his parent's basement? Do you see my point?

We are all on this rock flying thru space...lets make it fun

and turn it into a paradise planet now that we have the heart and

mind to do so! I think this is the perfect time and I welcome all

of those who seek a better world for their children to give this idea a try.

We filmed a very good chunk of this talk, as did some people in the

audience so this talk will be up on youtube soon!!!

Why a tipi?

If anyone has been following the story of this garden

they might be surprised at the sight of this tipi.

I had yurt fever for a few years..I really liked the space

and it seemed easy enough to move if needs be.

I drifted from that after realizing just how much I could save if

i built my own octagon-shaped cabin instead.

It wouldnt be portable but it would be warm and cozy

and really just more sound and sturdy I felt.

The tipi came into play when I started to think about the bigger

picture. Would it be smart for me to spend 10K on a cabin or a

yurt when I could use that money for something else?

If things REALLY got crazy with civilization collapsing,

we would all just be in my parent's place anyways across the road.

Why get crazy so early about a permanent structure?

Maybe in a few years but now...it was time for something a little more...

simple?

The tipi fit the bill..I could have bought a good tent and it would probably

be more waterproof than, but the tipi grabs eyes for sure.

Aesthetics come into play - they really do! We have to feed our eyes too!

I think its such a good fit in this garden, plus, since its basically a tent,

its not considered a permanent structure so no increase in property taxes.

Thats really something to think about...adding more living space

without adding to your property taxes.

I can eventually take the tipi off of the deck and place it in the

western meadow when the time comes for a more permanent replacement.

Im quite sure it would be an octagon shaped cabin with

*possibly* a dome greenhouse on top for some raised beds and

container plantings...the dome would warm up the house so well

in the winter time (if anyone even wanted to be there in the winter!! lol)

I always planned to make this a seasonal thing.

April to October mostly...then head south.

Now that everything is planted I just have to stay on top of

mulching around the trees and making sure the grass doesnt

compete with them too much. Im happy to be into that phase now

- its mostly mulching and harvesting.

My ideal is to have a tropical food forest.

Either in SE Asia or Hawaii..

Maybe Latin America...

To be in a year round food forest...to never have to worry about the

bees freezing to death...always lush...always things to harvest.

I could keep coming to the MN food forest in the growing season...

but afterwards it just hibernates - even the greenhouse up here goes to sleep.

Thats why the tipi made so much sense right now.

For $2,000, I have a living space that is bigger than many studio

apartments Ive seen in NYC. Its paid for and done - no housing bills

for now...nice to have it *kind of* taken care of.

Dont get me wrong - earlier this spring it was COLD in there.

Waking up in the tipi to see 35F on the thermometer

DOES NOT make you want to get out of bed.

Sleeping with wool socks and thermal underwear

makes it more than bearable, but for how many people? Not many.

Most folks are WAY too far down the path of domestication to

actually want to sleep in that kind of weather, but I assure you

that once you start doing it - it becomes addictive.

I know people that have gone year round in MN in a tipi

with just the woodstove and warm clothes...obviously

the Native Americans of the Great Plains had worse weather than

my springtime 35F with rain.

Maybe thats what will be there for a long time.

If I were to actually start a family here, of course there

would have to be an upgrade, but for now with me here by

myself its really perfect. I have a kitchenette, a bed, a place

to hang my stuff and put my stored food...its fine.

And who wants to be inside anyways?

Design more living space OUTSIDE. Fresh air!

White Clover - ALL OVER

My biggest regret is not knowing the true difference between

red clover and white...I have lots of both growing around,

but the red is so tall and makes it hard to walk around.

On the other side, the white clover stays low, puts out flowers

that the bees just go crazy for, and can really take a landscape

that looks like the surface of the moon and change it into

a lush paradise vibrating with the eager work of honeybees.

This is the pathway leading to the greenhouse and then

the "driveway" which is now car-free.

on the right...I just love walking through this everyday.

You have to watch out for the bees though!

I would cover an entire food forest with this.

Fukuoka knew that white clover was the key to fertility.

Whenever there is time to plant a new shrub or tree,

I just pull back the white clover until the space is adequate,

and then just pop in the new plant.

By pulling away some clover, I release lots of

nitrogen into the soil that the clover has fixed from the

the atmosphere into its roots. When you prune the top,

the plant "self-prunes" its own roots...thus feeding its neighbors.

It can handle some shade, and it can take the sun.

It stays low, feeds the bees, feeds the other plants,

and you can eat the flowers and the leaves!

This is a crucial addition to any food forest that has enough

moisture to support it...clover DOES need water.

Plant more and more - you wont regret it!!

I go back and forth with this.

Honestly, now I believe at the time in 1969,

it had morphed into such a propaganda machine

that they simply had to produce a successful

landing and the 100% sure-fire way to do it was to fake it.

Why send humans there the first time?

Why the trickery seen in this video???

I recently heard an interview on Ondionetwork.com

with Jay Weidner, and he recently produced a film

claiming that Stanley Kubrick was involved in this as well,

and that 1968's "2001: A Space Odyssey" was the prep for that.

WTF? Seriously listen to that interview and do some situps and push ups.

Watch that vid and do some boxing torso twists. Why not?

Multi-task if at all possible.

At least stretch a bit ;)

So where does this leave us?

If this has really been a massive lie for the past 40 years,

what else are these people capable of?

Im sure you can imagine.

if by chance anyone of dark intent is spying

(as if this is really THAT important?)

I would just like to send love to you and ask you

to plant a forest garden for your family and others you care about.

This can truly be a paradise planet and we can all have a really

great time without all the fuss and disappointment.

the rest of Asia...definitely an acidic environment that they were

spreading all over the place...people HATED these guys!

Shining pillars of health due to their financial resources?

Im thinking probably not. No way.

The food-health connection wasn't common until pretty recently.

But to really fake the moon landing? Really?

I get a bad feeling of truth when I watch that vid.

Like when I saw the grassy knoll vids with "badgeman"...

it really makes me feel scared because I just FEEL that

cold spot of evil somehow...yeeeeks!

This was me a little over 10 years ago! All puffed out on breads and pasta.

Late night eating too...so much factory food! I was working out allot during

this time so that is a HUGE clue as to how WHOLE-istic this life needs to be.

My 20th Bday...Cheesecake! Not a bad option if its grass fed

and the sweetener is of a higher vibration than white sugar.

Think of the omega 3 vs omega 6 in the two different cheesecakes.

After being in this food game - Ive realized that omega 3 is

such a huge part of the game. If you win one of the 30 consultations,

I will definitely mention this. In this post Im going to mention a few things

so EVERYONE can really benefit.

Of course I would love it if you wanted to do a one 2 one consult

where I could give more specific feedback, but I want you all

to know here and now a basic guideline to how I live these days.

I live in a garden with frogs, chipmunks, woodchucks, eagles, and deer.

This is huge. Not only for my lungs but for my soul!

Im barefoot and grounded many hours of the day!

I drink from the underground aquifer 160 feet below this food forest.

So not only am I eating food from the surface that I grow with love,

but Im also drinking the ancient water filtered thru the bedrock below it.

Being a model, I have to have a good blend of lean muscle mass.

Not too big that I cant fit into a well-cut suit for work,

but not to skinny that people would be asking me about my diet

so that they could PROPERLY AVOID IT.

I remember Dawn always telling me how I was so skinny

when we first met - and thats when I thought I was really tuned in too.

I was way too skinny back then...my agent even told me that I looked

like a bobble-head doll! These messages come at the right time.

At first I went to more fat but still raw vegan.

Coconut oil (coconuts in general are just perfect), avocado,

olive oil *check out Rallis olive oil from greece its amazing*...

And that helped...my rollercoaster eating habits were now fading away.

The low fat just had me constantly thinking about food...i would crave and then

eat the worst stuff as if I was a junky...something was not working.

I had really secluded myself from information outside the raw vegan world.

Once I finally tapped into Patrick Timpone at OneRadioNetwork.com

(Support Patrick! The man is putting out so much free info!)

I began to finally expand my horizons.

I heard interviews from ex-vegans who now became more

into the grass-fed Weston Price style diets and their stories

completely mirrored mine. The bad digestion, the cravings...

I decided to try it...starting with Goat Kefir.

As soon as I started to sip it...a lightbulb turned on.

Rarely have I felt that ah-ha moment but it happened then.

Whether it was all the grass-based minerals packaged in that wonderfully

absorbable delivery system known as milk

(and PLEASE know that NOT ALL MILKS ARE EQUAL).

or maybe it was all the probiotics? Who knows...nevertheless it sent

me on a path and now over two years later I am so happy and

keeping lean muscle mass without so much intense daily exercise.

Im of northern european descent so I can digest lactose easily,

but this was fermented milk...kefir...so the lactose was already gone.

Fat burns CLEAN and slow. Carbs burn fast...whether or not one wants to say

they burn dirty is their opinion, but they do burn fast and I was tired of

constantly eating all damn day. This was so new for me.

So what do I eat now? Egg dishes...with the yolks barely cooked.

I use Franky G's Mexican spice with grass fed cheddar and eggs and

its the most simple but amazing breakfast I make.

I eat a fair amount of Sardines now...usually from Canada.

I like sardines because they are a fish from colder waters

so the human presence is still very low.

In addition to that, they are very low on the food chain,

so they haven't accumulated toxins spewed out by humans.

Brisling sardines (very small ones) would ideally be the best,

having only fed on phytoplankton until they are caught.

Im doing lots of grass fed butter, coconut milk, rhubarb, berries...

Raw milk too. I found a great resource 15 min away so Im hooked!

Ive been making a great coconut soup and at the end i put a big

handful of rhubarb....im going to film it today!!

I do pine pollen, colostrum, and Sunwarrior's products too...

those are my major supplements besides the green powders,

especially chlorella and spirulina. They are huge!

If you are aiming towards veganism, the Sunwarrior stuff along with

the good fats and hi omega 3 items are CRUCIAL.

Im just speaking from my experience. I got the results I wanted

from these techniques and found it to be far easier than in my

early days of low fat veganism. It could be my body type,

or it could be humanity in general (im nudging towards the second).

I know that its real nutrition that our human bodies AND BRAINS need.

I think thats a big part of it...feeding our brains.

The original ratio for 3 to 6 is 1:1.

The modern diet is around 1:20 or even 1:50.

Inflamed overweight people are the result.

The foods pushed by the "authorities" have very little omega 3s

and simply are loaded with toxins and additives.

I would feel guilty feeding a dog or cat that food - let alone my kids!

SO - for diet - HIGH OMEGA 3 (whether vegan or not)

Chia seeds are high in 3, as are leafy greens as well as macadamia nuts.

Those three items right there all make me very happy.

And for omnivores...animal products coming from animals eating their

natural diet which is completely loaded in Omega 3's and NOT 6's.

Higher fat worked for me bigtime. Try it and see.

Animal products and fermented foods were HUGE for me.

Water - Spring water as much as possible. Become a water snob.

Its what youre made of silly!

No filtered BS at the restaurant if you can help it!

Obviously many systems are very good at filtration, but mama nature...

she does it the best...nice and slow....nice and slow :)

Eat your superior diet while doing it

and really see the results.

Back to the key about making it fun. I mostly listen to interviews

on Oneradionetwork.com - They are perfect and Im really

able to get the workout done while enjoying what Im listening to.

Of course you can listen to music or watch tv -

DO WHAT YOU ENJOY THE MOST WHILE EXERCISING.

Thats it. That way you can keep doing it.

I dont care what a person's workout routine is really like.

I know that if they have the results, its because they

are putting in time and sticking to the curriculum.

Consistently always gets the goods.

And they give it 100% at the end.

Make that last push up or pull up last forever...suspend yourself

in mid air until your muscles are so challenged that you have to stop.

Challenging your muscles (and yourself) is the only way to improve.

Go to the gym if you want to meet someone or enjoy the sauna-

otherwise youre wasting your time and your money -

and really exposing yourself to heaps of kooties in the locker room

and on the equipment - yeech! Too much! Then they spray it all down

with chemicals and all that...NO THANKS.

As for the gardening and permaculture food forests -

we are MEANT to live on a Paradise Planet.

The only question is whether or not you want to co-create

one for your descendants or not. Do it now - seriously.

Sitting around putting it on the back burner is the biggest possible

mistake you can make at a critical time like this.

I dont want to sound too extreme - but in 5 years you will be so

happy that you didnt wait any longer to get things planted and established.

Turning 30 is weird - its all BS calendar stuff anyways but it is a good

time to reflect on the last decade and start to manifest the next.

Im at a critical new chapter in my life - things are rapidly

manifesting and everything is now coming into place.

Everyone is waking up and tuning into the love and abundance

vibration and we are alive to witness it! Send love to each other!

In parting...WE ARE ANGELS.

I kid you not one bit. The cells in your body were once the cells of

the sun and before that the cells of a supernova.

start LIVING it...just be nice to people...help others...it will make sense.

When you at last realize that you are helping your self by acting this

way, everything will crystallize. Im sure many of you realize this already.

Some people might say that Ive been too nice to people,

that I might be taken advantage of by some misguided folks.

I say let people try to take advantage of you - they will only let

their nature be shown to you sooner. Be nice no matter what.

Never let the lower vibrations of others bring yours down...

keep the high vibe and send out good energy!

Screw the naysayers lol! Dont be a doormat of course...

have a backbone...but come from love and KNOW

that you are indeed in good hands.

We are so blessed its a joke. Its not even fair really.

Some reading this have seen and maybe even experienced real poverty

in their lives...but many of us get it thru the TV screen.

We have it so good...so good.

Walking thru Kathmandu or Phnom Penh...you see

that we are all just friggin whiners in the west.

Seeing people living so simply really inspired me

to design for simplicity with my garden...

the true teachers are not always so obvious!

Talking about Pollen Again....

This stuff has just rocked my world.

If you get fresh pollen, youll just know it.

There's a jar in the tipi of some wild been pollen from

Mountain Rose...its SOOOO hard! This stuff here is pure soft heaven.

I have it with cream, coconut milk, or alone...its too precious to blend.

And the harvest is so much easier than honey...

I might be leaving for LA soon and Im really going to miss this.

Ill admit that Ive been getting kind of lonely here.

Its great but the moments to occur. I know that WAY TOO SOON

Ill be back in some damn city again and just aching to get back

to this garden...I must savor every moment that Im here -

even if Im by myself. Its good for me anyways...

reading, stretching, working out, pulling grass from around the

newly planted trees...feeding chipmunks and talking to woodchucks.

Lots to do here.

But back to the pollen...get bees. Seriously.

Put them on your roof or tuck them away somewhere.

Get a pollen trap. Get some bees. Youll be happy.

Although i have now been stung 3 times since

getting the new girls...once I totally deserved it getting too close,

another time a bee climbed inside my shirt and I didnt know and

it stung me, and the third time one just randomly nailed me

as I was walking thru the clover. go figure.

So...tuck them away if you can but theres a good chance that sooner

or later youre gonna get nipped...but its not the end of the world really.

i dont even feel them much anymore, but putting some zeolite clay

on afterwards makes a nice difference I feel.

Fresh pollen...once youve had it the rest is hard to go back to.

Making friends with the Chipmunks...they just use me for food though ;)

I just have very little desire to be on the computer much these days.

There is just so much to experience in the garden, and Im studying

a new language and working out + stretching so life is great.

I post there thru the iphone pretty often, especially with new pics.

I have been eating SO much wild food, and really consuming

loads of raw grass fed dairy and eggs from a local farm that is just

too good to be true - 15 min away and Jersey Cows! LOVE THAT.

Nettles! I have been drinking nettle tea and even used the greens

for a pesto! Ive been eating dandelions too, but nettles are just awesome.

They grow in the shade too...totally a spring ephemeral.

Remember that! All your shady spots that can be tucked away would

be a perfect spot for nettles...I bought some more currants and gooseberries

as well....and everything has just exploded in green.

Now that the good weather is here, I feel like the drift

away from the computer becomes more and more intense.

I hope you pursue this path too! I DO love the internet

and all the info it has brought us, but sitting down in front

of the screen just has less and less appeal after being outside and

being grounded all the time now.

Ive also started to collect seeds from this garden.

They are biodynamic, the soil is loaded with root fungi,

and they all received foliar sprays.

Ill mail these to Blackbird HQ is Arizona so they can get

them ready for everyone...also - if youre interested in anything I might

Living the Life!

A warm soak on a starry night, then curling up in the tipi for a 6 hour nap :)

Think about how grounding the hot tub is!

The wood is definitely grounded and then I'm soaking in that

super pure fossil water...brought up from 165ft below.

It is truly an experience.

My first night in the tipi just occurred.

I had to stay very wrapped up...still pretty cold at night up here in Minnesota.

Im way more domesticated than Id like to admit!!!

So much going on...check the youtube page for newest vids!!

There has been loads of rain and 80F weather so everything is

SUPER green now...Its only mid-may! I cant believe how its

The April 2011 Minnesota Food Forest!!

I was lucky enough to find North Central Reforestation -

they are only 30 min from my space in Minnesota and

because of them I was able to do a truly massive planting.

Over 300 trees and shrubs were planted in the past two weeks!!!!

Spring is the best time to "clean" up the woods a bit...

keeping pathways clean and checking around for mushrooms.

Lots of time in the woods alone brings clarity!!

Besides looking for mushrooms, I feel that Im becoming much more

tuned in with the seasons and how nature awakens during the spring.

I found wild ramps growing down by the wetter and lower spots of our area.

It was truly a gift from nature...I have picked only one so far because I

simply enjoy seeing them there so much. I was going to plant some

but alas...nature beat me to it.

The dome is seriously popping now. Ive been putting in seedlings

like Matt's Wild Cherry Tomato and Stevia, in between the dynamic accumulators

like comfrey, yarrow, and white clover. I am taking more photos tmrw!!!

May 1st is here...its COLD and VERY windy.

I feel so bad for all the trees that were planted last week. :(

They will make it though, and its been wet enough to keep the

roots nice and happy until the sun really starts beaming.

believe the difference from then until now. Im going

to film more this week now that things are waking up quickly!

Pine Pollen - Its About Time

First off - If you arent blessed to have these majestic

trees in your area or don't have the time and/or passion to harvest

your own pollen, check out Surthrival.

Their pollen is harvested from the pristine forests of Mongolia,

which is VERY different from the streets of southern california where

I happened to come across this stuff....

Read about their pine pollen HERE...it will give you a good briefing

on why people are so crazy about it, and why I would spend hours

collecting it and then many more processing it.

I lucked out...I was at a casting (which I didnt get but I am happier

because it led me to this swath of pine trees) and after it was over,

I walked out to my car and looked up the street and saw them all in

their full glory....just a bit too late because all the flowers seemed

to have been spent by the wind already.

Im making the second vid for this now, but here is the first.

I really wish I could have had someone filming that day

after the casting...I found so many plumpers just bursting with pollen afterwards..

They made the AZ pine pollen harvest seem really tiny!

That happened exactly 364 days ago!

Im now making tinctures with vodka and freezing the powder for later.

I do have to wonder about the air quality of LA and its effect on the plants.

I know that organic veg can be grown in similar conditions,

but when I think of the fresh mountain air and what those pines must

be like...It really gets me thinking about heading north.

Im hoping to get up to Northern AZ and hunt for more the next

time we go on a springwater run...maybe that will happen within

the next week. Foraging is definitely one of my favorite things to do...

its so therapeutic and it really puts someone in the moment while

they are foraging and looking for food and medicine...its so great.

I have been foraging so much this year. The food is everywhere.

Its hard to beat dumpster diving and central park wild foraging

in NYC, but I really think Phoenix has that potential.

Just yesterday I picked pine pollen, ripe olives, tangelos,

oranges, grapefruits, lemons...gojis are coming soon,

saguaro cactus in june...picked barrel cactus fruit a week ago..

pecans are finishing up now too...the list goes on!

Forage! Gather! Put your ecosystem into YOUR system...

with wild water and wilder foods...it really changes a person

on so many levels. That step alone will completely alter a person's life.

Kombucha Experimentation

Since Ive grown so many scobys now,

Im definitely branching out and trying some new blends.

The one above is astragalus, goji berries, chaga, and black tea.

Ive found that the best sugar to use truly is straight up org. CANE

sugar...turbinado works well too and so does maple ($$$ though).

I highly recommend branching out - Im trying a sarsaparilla

variety too and the classic ginger...I just love kombucha.

Be sure to cut it with water when youre ready to drink it though.

Kombucha is really acidic, and drinking so much of it can be

a bit hard on a person. I make mine for about

25 CENTS A GALLON

(TAKE THAT GT! YOUR WIMPY NEW BREWS STINK!)

and the power of homemade is truly tangible.

Picked, Cured, and ENJOYED!

These ended up better than I ever expected.

The olives I picked in this vid:

are still in their brine. However, I did a salt pack with

the really ripe ones, and they became edible so fast and ended up

so tasty that Im completely sold on the method.

I used a burlap sack, which ended up leaving little burlap

hairs that had to be picked and washed off - big pain in the butt.

The best way would be to use a nut mylk bag or a cheese cloth.

Wrap all the olives with salt so the salt roughly touches most of

the olives. They dont have to be completely engulfed in salt.

They should hang so the water pulled off from the salt can drip.

I would let this moisture drip into a can so you can use it for

mixing with your water for your vegetable garden. Good minerals!

I can't see it taking more than one month. There are still ripe

olives hanging on the trees in Phoenix and Im going to make it

a point to collect as many as I possibly can before they all fall and shrivel up.

To think that SUCH AMAZING ABUNDANCE gets swept up and trashed

every single year completely reflects the insanity of this culture.

All you need is a cheesecloth and some sea salt! COME ON!!!

The abundance is everywhere my friends...all you have to do is

just look around and open your eyes and your heart.

The world of lack belongs to the domesticates...to the wild and free-range

people out there, food and medicine abounds and we are all happy.

Ill keep you posted on the brine cure...they are getting close but

still a little too bitter to enjoy...stay tuned!

Wild Goji Berries!!!

I discovered wild goji berries (wolfberries) on the hill in

our backyard yesterday! Who would've thought??

This is likely Lycium Andersonii...I swear!

It could be Lyceum Fremonti, but Im pretty sure its Andersonii,

and not because of me of course..

again, a message to realize that food is EVERYWHERE if you

can just identify it - and certainly...start looking for it in the first place!

The Gift Economy

All of this Whole Food bending-over-to-GMO talk inspired me on this,

as well as the general path our lives have been traveling on this past year.

My mission has always aimed towards promoting self-reliance.

5 years ago when I was drawing "ideas" the food forest in Minnesota,

I was NO WHERE NEAR the concepts that Ive been blessed to come across

in the past few months. Things are getting better SO much faster:

-Ideas (and REALLY good ideas) are spreading at a faster rate than EVER,

-We have access to the best possible foods and resources to free ourselves,

-AND we have the opportunities to make real connections with

like-minded souls from across the planet. Some will manifest physically,

and others will stay on the computer and possibly have an even larger

effect on our overall lifestyles...who knows? Its all opening up.

Im envisioning a life where most (very likely ALL) of the things we need

will be of our own, and our community's (local and online) love and giving.

Picture yourself in your ideal paradise garden - it can be anywhere

on the planet that you desire...tropical, pine forest, your heart's desire...

Food and life flourishing EVERYWHERE. Birds and insects buzzing about.

You see your kids filling up their drinking jugs with crystal clear water

from the storage tanks you happily bought in 2011...it still rains regularly

again and youve never gone under 50%, but you're always so thankful its there.

All your food comes from your space or the nearby areas...friends still

mail things to your home and you do the same.

You received 50lbs of almonds last fall from your friend in California

and still have well over 60% left.

She uses your dried persimmon fruit-rolls to reward her kids for

scooping up goat poop for the compost pile.

Its the smell of pee that bothers them more than anything.

No more grocery stores? This is happening for people NOW.

They will go to farmer's markets and buy insanely nutritious

foods DIRECTLY from the person that fostered it's growth.

They will collect water from SPRINGS,

They will become a part of the ecosystem again and wild-forage.

They will grow so much that when they ferment, can, and put the

rest in the root cellar, they will have enough food for the next 5 months.

This is happening now. The gift economy...like bartering, but with more love :)

Produce and forage as much as you can (while still ENJOYING IT),

get whatever else from farmer's markets, good online products,

and bartering with love. Your heart should be smiling when you do it. :D

Do we REALLY need to go to grocery stores anymore on a regular basis?

Is the common grocery store becoming obsolete

in this new economy and consciousness?

More and more people are floating away from ANY grocery store and buying

everything they need either online or at farmer's markets.

How...wonderful??? I think so.

Permaculture in the Wintertime

Permaculture and deep winter weather seem to be in conflict,

but I have to say there are so many benefits to wispy cold air of these months.

Besides the free time to take a few trips to the tropics,

winter is a prime time to take advantage of the changes in your landscape.

Its the easiest time to clear brush. No poison ivy, no mosquitoes.

Most of my brush clearing time is in the very early spring.

Im able to see everything much better and its far easier to walk around.

In the greenhouse (which is unheated) I laid dozens and dozens

of logs inoculated with edible mushrooms. When the temp drops under

freezing, the mycelia will slow down, but in the greenhouse on sunny days,

the temps will greatly exceed this, so the mushrooms eat their way through

the wood MUCH faster...about 5 months more than outside.

This really isnt an advantage of winter, but a tip to keep your shroom

production way up and will speed down the decomposition for your soil

under your trees...trees LOVE LOVE LOVE wood broken down by shrooms.

Winter is a good time to stay inside and LEARN more.

Spring and summer are the times to act, but the cold seasons are

the times to delve deep into research so your arsenal is well equipped

when the temps rise again. In the summer, I RARELY read. There is just

too much to do outside and by the time I come in at night, Im tired and

just want to relax and go to sleep. But the darker winter months make for

great reading and video time...take advantage and learn as much as you can!

If you plant certain varieties like winterberries, hawthorn, seaberries,

and others, you can continue to harvest throughout the season.

Think about this...most of these varieties will be known as wildlife friendly,

which means that they will stay on for extended periods of time.

Anyways...dont let the cold get you down.

There are plenty of good opportunities to grow YOURSELF

in these months...take advantage my cold weather brethren!!

How to restore the header?

Someone emailed me earlier saying that the pull down

menu was messed up, so I decided to delete the facebook

option and instead deleted the whole pulldown menu.

That was the thing that made it look really legit, and now

I have no idea if I can restore it. Any ideas???

Im searching google now to see what I can do..:(

Honestly I dont fully care, Ive become less and less attached.

I was smiling from ear to ear while watching this...

its such a pleasure to see a young, happy couple starting their own

paradise, and to know that some of our seeds are a part of that wonderful

space gets me right in my heart...to think that these seeds will multiply

by the tens of thousands in the next few years and provide so much

nutrition and beauty for them and their loved ones is just too cool.

Thank you so much you two...Im so happy to see everything evolving so

quickly and cant wait to see how everything looks when we come down to

visit in person! Biggest hugs ever...tons of love and thanks for the

dedication to Selim - he was probably my closest male friend this past

year and not having him around really left an empty spot in our hearts.

Knowing that his memory lives on in these Spaces of Love gives

me such a good feeling inside, and Im honored to be friends with you both.

Alexandra has come up with an amazing body butter

that she actually makes herself...

because we all love how it turned out, we decided that it would

be a great product to offer to everyone.

She makes it herself at home in small batches,

and she was very adamant about not skimping on ingredients.

Being a guy, Im not as tuned into the body butter scene lol,

but after using this, I have found it to be really nice while

being in the sun and I use it on my lips and hands as well.

She cuts open the vanilla beans herself and gently melts all the butters

until everything marries perfectly - once you simply SMELL this product

youll know that there is something special about it.

We DEEPLY have to realize that what we put on our skin gets absorbed

Wild Food Foraging...FOR OUR CHICKENS!

Take your foraging to a new level...it just doesnt have to be for you!

This was a breakthrough for me...we are putting in so many wild nutrients

into our hens and they are just soooo happy...the yolks are getting better

and better everyday. My mind is racing with possibilities!

Prickly pears into chickens into eggs into us :)

And they LOVE the seeds...which we cant eat. So happy about this.

So think about it...grass clippings, leaves, stuff that we might not want.

I plan on taking this to new levels - who knows where it can lead?

And the spines havent been a problem as far as I can tell,

when I put them in the coop I step on them so they get right to the good juices.

So think about this if you are teaming up with animals,

your options can be greatly expanded and their nutrition will surpass

any junk sold in a bag at the grocery store.

Hardcore Chickens

These little feathered dinosaurs roam our desert food forest...

The black one above ate a fatty scorpion the other day as we

were building our vegetable patch.

I lifted up a large rock and saw so many little critters underneath it.

I grabbed one of the girls and brought her over to the scene and pointed

at the bugs for her...little did I know that I was also pointing at a

really plump bark scorpion that was overwintering under that rock.

She ignored the little bugs and started attacking the scorpion.

Two hard pecks - one to the tail and one to the back put the scorpion

out but it was still wriggling in her mouth as she was walking away from

the scene...I was so worried that it was going to sting her.

Then she just tilted her head back and swallowed the whole thing.

She is still alive and very well...I swear they are feathered dinosaurs.

So....scorpion eats little critters.

Chicken eats scorpion.

Chicken lays eggs from nutrients of said scorpion.

We eat those wonderfully golden eggs.

We crumble up the shells and feed them back to the chickens.

Chicken poops out scorpion and we use it on our gardens for nutrients.

Loving it all...
